Well, for the last month and a half, I’ve been computerless or nearly so. First, I was installing a new cd-rom drive and an ethernet card in my home computer. Cable internet was coming, and I needed both (at least one) of those things. I thought I could do it. I am woman; hear me roar!

I dropped the screwdriver inside the computer. On the motherboard. My first thought was, “Oh, that can’t be good!” And it certainly wasn’t. I apparently did something to the onboard video card. After a month or so of letting it sit, I took the computer up to Sandy’s and her honey-bunny looked at it for me. He put in a PCI video card, and it worked. The only problem was the color—bad, bad, bad. He said that when I get my own, it would come with drivers that should fix that problem. When I got home, I went and bought myself a video card and installed it (without dropping a screwdriver onto the motherboard this time). When I tried to install the drivers from the cd-rom, an error occurred. I had 16-bit color, and it was terrible! I also lost some use of my spacebar key. I don’t know if that was related or not. Heh. After a couple of days, I checked online to see if the product had drivers to download, and they did. And now it works. It’s so nice to have my baby back! (Did I say, “I am woman; hear me roar!”?)

In the interim, I used my school notebook computer at home. I installed the cable internet on it and used that at home. I installed the firewall on it, but it interfered with my network at school. That was the first of the problems. I don’t know if that was the actual problem because a week or so after I started using it at home, it went kaput. Completely and utterly kaput. Yes, the hard drive died. Everything I had created for school went with it. Even my gradebook was lost. Fortunately the first two quarters I had already printed out, so I had a hard copy. This quarter, I only had a couple weeks worth of test grades. Not too much was lost, thankfully.

After two weeks of being with our school tech person, it’s back in my hands. My other baby is back! I haven’t hooked it up yet, but I have it back. This weekend I will be spending some time putting in grades. I’ve just been writing them down on a chart sheet. I have three pages of grades or more. Doesn’t that sound like fun. I really wouldn’t know what to do if I had to have a regular gradebook—the one that you actually open up and write in. I’d be lost! Heh.

So, this weekend brings lots of grading, updating some documents that I lost and must re-create, and more grading. It also includes a little rest and relaxation because, let’s face it. I will not do the work until Sunday. I am a procrastinator after all.

Anyway, I’m back up and running and really have a desire to get this journal back on its feet. Thank you to those who continue checking in. ;-)
