Well, she finally did it. My best friend in the whole world nabbed herself a man, got him to fall in love with her (which wouldn't be a hard thing to do - she's the best of the best), and then married him! I couldn't be happier for her. She deserves to be happy, and I'm glad that she has found someone to love and be loved. Truly!
Throughout the whole wedding preparation, as maid of honor, I did what I could do to help her (I can't remember what I've called her in the past - her pseudonym - it starts with an 'S' - I guess I'll look it up later!) so that she wouldn't get so stressed. Well, I never thought she would, but she turned into a min-bridezilla! It was funny! She was so anal about things I would have never guessed her to be so adamantly for or against. I don't blame her; she just wants her day to be special. She was fun - lots of fun - to tease! I will continue to do so, too, until I feel it's run its course. I'm like that. It's why she loves me so much! *nods*
The day before the wedding, Friday, was an atrocity weatherwise! Yikes! I was late to the rehearsal because we had winter storms - rain, sleet, and snow! It was amazing.
Ah, the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner! I was her maid-of-honor. I took my role seriously and wanted to make sure that I fulfilled what jobs I could - bridal showers, thank-you cards, running errands with her, running errands for her, picking or dropping things off, etc. The personal attendant arrived Friday night for the rehearsal. She sat on her hind-end for most of the night even though I (an others) was requesting help here and there. After all, the bridal party was getting situated and practicing and being properly placed, hence the whole "rehearsal" label! She must have been there for the dinner. Who knows. She did better on the wedding day, sort of. Besides her, the rehearsal was laidback and a lot of fun. The weather was CRAZY, so going to the dinner was a bit interesting, but because it had been so warm prior to the storm, the snow/sleet/rain hadn't iced over on the roads quite yet. By the time we got out, they were really okay. The dinner was good - fried and baked fish, chicken, baked taters, and coleslaw. Just good ol' food! Mmmmm...
Saturday, though, was so much better weatherwise. The sun was at least peeking out. Thank the good Lord!
The wedding was fabulous. With the exception of two of the bridesmaids being big babies, it went without a hitch. I was impressed with my friend and how she rolled with the punches, so to speak. When the cake top floral arrangement wasn't delivered with the rest of the flowers, she didn't panic. She just called her cousin, who did the sanctuary decorations, to come and use some of the leftover decorations to make an arrangement on the top of the cake. When the veil stuck too far out in front (it was short and netted), she just wore it back to start with instead of wearing it in front and then have it put back by the groom or whatever. When pearls fell off of her barrette, she just called for a glue gun and put them back on. When the bridesmaids' dresses that she saw for the first time when we were dressing (how that happened, I'm not sure!) and saw that our wraps were the same silk as our dresses instead of organza, she just rolled with it. I was sooooo impressed with her! :)
My older sister, Tonia, came early to be MY personal attendant. Heh! She was a godsend. She did far more work as a personal attendant than the bride's did. I'm so glad she was there. When the mother-of-the-bride's dress went missing (in the bottom of the bag), she was there to press it! (She does that for my other sister who has the bridal shop.) When the bridesmaid who brought her six-month old with her, with no one to take care of him, kept getting her dress tugged over to reveal to much breastage - did I mention the baby? - Tonia was there with double-sided tape! Unfortunately, the bridesmaid kept carrying the baby around, so he kept tugging it free. It didn't help that she didn't have the dress altered properly. Not that she was the only one who didn't! In fact, I was the only bridesmaid who had gotten the dress properly (read, professionally) altered, therefore my dress was the only one that actually fit nicely. I was the only one with decent shoes, too. The bride let us pick our own shoes, so long as they were not toe-less. I was the only one to go with the style that she had been looking at initially. The others? Yikes... old lady shoes! (Again, the bride did great because she didn't let the fact that they look old lady-ish get to her! Yay for her!)
But in the end, it was spectabulous! Beautiful! Dazzling! Refreshingly fun! It was quite clear that the bride was eager to get to her honeymoon! (They had both refrained from premarital sex, so eagerness was a given! *lol*) It was just a lot of fun! I had a wonderful time. I got lots of compliments. My hair was all curly and purty. The dress looked great. I was smiling all night. (Well, with the exception of the tortuous time up on the alter as my feet were killing me - the shoes were stunning, but man did they kill my feet. That was what kept me from crying during the ceremony, though, so I can't complain too much! Heh.) All in all, it was a wonderful day and night! Long, but wonderful.
I am so glad it's over.
I don't have pics yet, but hopefully someday. :)
