Wild Thing!

I am the laziest person on this whole entire earth. No, really, I am. Heh!

Toward the end of the summer, as I anticipate the upcoming school year, I always ponder upon the reasons of starting on a Wednesday. We always seem to start on a Wednesday. That means that the first week of school consists of three days. Since we always start the week before Labor Day, there’s a long weekend with no school on Monday. This, of course, makes the second week of school only four days. I always think, “Who thought of this, and what kind of drugs were they on?”

I must now rethink this whole thing. It’s brilliant, and apparently no drugs were involved. Heh!

The first week of school is always exhausting. Teachers spend the days previous to the first day of school getting their classrooms ready. It’s something that takes time and a whole lot of energy. When the students finally come, we are tired. We then proceed to have three days of getting-to-know-you games and activities, skills tests, class rules discussed and ultimately challenged, and so on and so forth.

This year was no exception! Friday night rolled around, and I went home, took a hot bath and relaxed all night. On Saturday, I stayed in my nightie all day long. I’m serious. I never got dressed. On Sunday, I took a quick shower and then got back in my nightie. Again, I never got dressed. I didn’t step foot outside of my house (except for chasing after Lucky in-between the house and the garage). On Monday, Labor Day, I got a telephone call around 1 P.M. from my landlord (and colleague). He wanted to come over and measure my oven. He and his wife just installed a new one in their home and were thinking of putting their old one in my house. Well, I asked him to give me an hour and ran around tidying up. I also jumped in the shower and got dressed for the first time in three days. How lazy is that??? If he hadn’t wanted to come over, I would never have gotten dressed during this weekend. Yikes!

I didn’t intend on being that lazy. I promise. Each day I told myself, I will go down below (Palm Springs) tomorrow. Really. I’ll run my errands tomorrow. Well, my family motto is “Don’t put off today what you can put off until tomorrow.” Guess what. Tomorrow never comes! Heh. I never did go down the hill. I was just too plain lazy. It felt really good, though. I seemingly sprained my ankle a few weeks ago, and it was a good thing to just completely be off of it for three days. It’s still bothering me, but it is so much better than it was. And that is all because I stayed off of it and did nothing this weekend.

Really.

Honest. Anyway . . . I was a wild woman this weekend!

On another note, look what I found at my house!

It's a black widow! I love living here in the desert, but it certainly is home to a lot of disgusting and poisonous creatures -- rattlesnakes, black widows, tarantulas (although these are mildly poisonous apparently), scorpions. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck!
