Another British Invasion!

As I stated yesterday, I didn’t go anywhere this weekend. I popped online every once in awhile, but I wasn’t even interested much in that. I read a little bit, but mostly I watched a lot of movies – VHS, DVD, Lifetime Movie Network, TBS, TNT, WE, and Oxygen. Oh yeah. I was a surfing queen this week! I have really become quite intimate with my DirecTV “guide”. Flippin’ here and flippin’ there.

Movies aren’t the only things that I watched, though. Oh. My. Gosh! Can you say BBC America?!

When I was home this summer, my sisters led me to a burgeoning addiction of “Trading Spaces” and “Changing Rooms”. I love it! I can’t get enough of either show! The American version, “Trading Spaces” is an hour long, and the British counterpart, “Changing Rooms” is only a half an hour. I have found that since I’ve been home, I haven’t been able to watch “Trading Spaces” very often because with DirecTV, all of the non-network channels are east-coast time, which means that what should be on at 10 P.M. is on at 7 P.M. for me. Therefore, I miss a lot of “Trading Spaces”. Dagnabit. These shows take two couples/teams and have them re-decorate each other’s rooms – living room, bedroom, kitchen, etc. It can be nasty! They get two days, a budget, and they are not allowed to peek at their own rooms as the re-decorating is happening. The end results can be GREAT fun. Heh! Let’s just say, the British are less likely to hold back their true thoughts! Very entertaining indeed.

No worries, mate! “Changing Rooms” must be having a marathon. It’s on ALL THE TIME. Oh yeah! I switched between already-seen episodes and tennis and movies. It’s quite pathetic, quite honestly. Shhh. Don’t tell anyone! This isn’t the real me. Honest!

During the commercials on BBC America, I saw advertisements for “So Graham Norton”. The commercial is all about people covering their mouths in absolute horror and surprise. I could see that things really astounding happened on this comedy show. I had to check it out. Oh man! You can’t believe the horrifying humor on television. This guy is not only hilarious via his words, but his actions have you in stitches for an entire hour. It’s a talk show of sorts. He has famous people come on, and there is some pretty sexually raunchy jokes and things that happen.

For instance:

Andrea Corr, of the Corrs (Irish pop rock band) was on. She plays a penny whistle, and this was brought up on the show. She’s asked if she would play, and she agrees. Until Graham takes out the penny whistle – it’s a penis. Yes, a penis. It has a mouth piece and holes on the side to use for . . . ummm . . . fingering. It’s an instrument, for crying out loud! Andrea immediately shakes her head and puts up her hand, refusing to partake in such a horrific act. Everyone is laughing hysterically. (Cher is the main guest, by the way, and is sitting there just laughing.) So, Graham decides that he is going to play this “instrument”. He sets the tip of the “cock” (his word, I tell ya!) to his lips, and Andrea proceeds to tell him how to play. Again, the audience (myself included) is laughing hysterically. And yes, my hands cover my mouth in shock, just like in the commercials!

He tries to blow. Nothing. Andrea suggests that he not “blow to hard.” His lips remain on the tip as his eyes lift and look around. Laughter erupts. He asks Andrea if she can help him with the fingering. More laughter. This show is raunchy, I tell ya! He then plays a long, soft note on his makeshift penny whistle.

That is just one small example of the hilarious antics of this Graham Norton. I must admit: I’m hooked on this, as well. It’s almost embarrassing to admit such a thing, but I just can’t help myself!

Work? What’s work? Okay, I’ll get back to work tomorrow. Whether or not I’m ready, Tuesday will come. I guess it’s better to be ready, eh?

Well, the Diarist Awards is finally over. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I appreciate all the nice emails that I received supporting my little journal. Glatisanta was a very deserving winner. She's articulate and very amusing! Go check her out! Congratulations, too, should go out to Karen of Hot on Top, Coat Below as a finalist with me.

There were some other very good sites and entries that were among the finalists (who, like me, did not win their category, dagnabit!). Some of my favorites were: Kevin of Changing Times and of course my dear friend, Sandy of Random Rain and Jenny over at Guileless.net.

Congratulations to all! It was a good run, and we were all in good company. This experience was great fun, and I am so thankful for being nominated and then chosen as a finalist. Wow!
